When processing landscapes, I use multiple textures as layers on top in various layer modes and opacities to create the old world effect I am after. Often my opacities of the layers are around 30%, with areas where I don't like the texture masked away. The cracked overlays are added on top at the end, also in a low opacity and usually I use soft light layer mode. This adds an extra bit of texture and interest to the finished art.

These textures along with the cracked overlays work really well to give a vintage look to your still life photography, too!
